Fishery Management Plan for West Coast Fisheries for Highly Migratory Species (HMS FMP)

The Fishery Management Plan for West Coast Fisheries for Highly Migratory Species (HMS FMP) was originally published combined with the final environmental impact statement (FEIS) in August 2003 and partially approved NMFS in February 2004.  The FMP and related documents are accessible below, followed by in-progress and implemented actions. Actions related to FMP implementation

  • Final rule to establish a number of conservation and management measures for the fisheries managed under the HMS FMP (April 7, 2004)
  • Final rule to prohibit shallow longline sets targeting swordfish east of 150° W longitude by vessels managed under the HMS FMP (March 11, 2004)
  • NMFS partial approval letter s the FMP. (February 4, 2004)
